  • Side skirts on trailers improve the overall drag coefficient and MPG.
  • Enhanced tire compositions and setups lead to reduced rolling resistance and increased MPG.
  • LTL system flow improvements enhance loaded fill rates, reducing the miles required per shipment.
  • Advanced data center designs reduce HVAC demands and overall utility consumption.
  • Recycle used oil, oil filters, antifreeze, batteries, and scrap steel.
  • Maintenance shop towels are laundered for reuse.
  • Retread tires to extend lifespan and reduce tire waste.
  • Utilization of efficient LED lighting and solar technology.

Our History

Our story begins on three American frontiers—the Southeast, the Upper Midwest, and the West Coast, where resilience, ingenuity, and family-led leadership laid the foundations of what is now AAA Cooper Transportation (ACT).

The Southeast: The Dove Legacy and AAA Cooper Transportation (ACT)

In Alabama, the Dove family story took shape when John H. “Red” Dove hauled lumber with his father in the 1930s. Amid the Great Depression, Red launched Dove Truck Line and navigated sweeping changes after the Motor Carrier Act of AAA Cooper Transportation Historical Picture1935 brought industry-wide regulation under the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). His entrepreneurial path continued through John H. Dove Transportation Company, its merger into D&D Transportation, and in 1951, his acquisition and renaming of P.C. White Truck Lines to AAA Motor Lines. Red’s sons, Earl and Mack, joined the business after earning transportation degrees from the University of Tennessee in 1956 and 1959.

Under the ICC regulatory environment in the 1950s–early 1970s, AAA Motor Lines grew by acquiring companies with valuable routes, culminating in 1969 with the purchase of Cooper Transfer Company. In 1973, Earl and Mack purchased Red’s interest, and in 1975, Cooper Transfer was renamed AAA Cooper Transportation (SCAC: “AACT”). Later, in 1982, AAA Motor Lines consolidated under the AAA Cooper Transportation name.

Anticipating deregulation, the company secured expanded authority in Florida (1976), followed by Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and continued to grow through acquisitions such as Haynes Motor Lines (1986) and nine Bowman service centers (1990). In 1989, Earl sold his ownership to Mack, who guided ACT through transformative expansion, including opening its first service center outside the Southeast in Chicago (1994) to serve Midwest demand.

In 1994, Mack’s son, Reid Dove, having grown up in the business, joined AAA Cooper Transportation after graduating from Auburn University. In 2001, Reid became President & CEO, carrying forward the Dove family legacy of strong leadership. In 2010, Reid appointed Charlie Prickett Executive Vice President & COO, further driving operational excellence and a customer-focused growth strategy.

The Upper Midwest: Midwest Motor Express (MME)

In Bismarck, North Dakota, Midwest Motor Express traces its earliest roots to 1918, when Charles Snyder hauled coal, sand, and freight by horse and wagon. By the 1920s and 1930s, partners Joseph Greenstein and Julius Roswick expanded truck operations across the region, merging in 1937–1938 to operate as RGS, Inc., soon renamed Midwest Motor Express, Inc. MME grew through operating authority expansions and acquisitions, Midnite Express (1945), Schmidt Truck Lines (1956), and others, establishing a durable footprint across the Midwest and Northwest.

Meanwhile, MME navigated industry deregulation by expanding coverage and strengthening its position as a regional LTL carrier in the Midwest and Pacific Northwest.

The West Coast: DHE Transportation (DHE)

The story of DHE Transportation began in 1950, when Harry Massman launched Dependable Trucking in downtown Los Angeles with a single bobtail truck. What started as a modest operation soon grew into a family-driven enterprise. His sons, Ron and Bob, joined in 1964 and 1973, helping steward growth across sales, operations, and administration. In 1986, the company adopted the name Dependable Highway Express, Inc. (DHE) for its LTL division, marking a new era of growth. Over the next decades, DHE extended its reach beyond California—entering Arizona in 2001 and Nevada in 2010—solidifying its reputation as a leading regional carrier throughout the Southwest and along the West Coast.

A pivotal moment occurred in July 2021, when Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: KNX) acquired AAA Cooper Transportation, transitioning ACT from privately held to an independent subsidiary. Later in December 2021, Midwest Motor Express was acquired for the Upper Midwest and Pacific Northwest operating region, further strengthening the build-out of national coverage.

In July 2024, Dependable Highway Express (DHE) was acquired from Dependable Supply Chain Services and rebranded as DHE Transportation, becoming the West Coast operating region.

In 2024, Reid Dove assumed the role of Chairman, while Charlie Prickett transitioned to President & CEO of AAA Cooper Transportation, reinforcing the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and people-first leadership.

On January 1, 2026, AAA Cooper Transportation (ACT) unified Midwest Motor Express (MME) and DHE Transportation (DHE) under the AAA Cooper Transportation (ACT) brand, bringing together over a century of service and experience into one integrated LTL network. Today, AAA Cooper Transportation carries forward the shared values that built each of its legacies: resilience in the face of change, excellence in operations, and a commitment to serving customers, communities, and employees—mile by mile.
